Über Borderline

Borderline is a free-running, first-person action adventure developed and published by Dogwood Gaming. Heavily inspired by the momentum-based gameplay of Mirror’s Edge, it places players in the role of an independent agent working against the powerful mega corporations that control the futuristic city-state of Greyhawke. The game combines fluid parkour, environmental puzzles, stealth, and first-person combat into a fast-paced experience built around movement, speed, and smart route planning.

Story and Setting

Greyhawke is a vast off-world human city-state with a self-sustaining economy. It was originally established through funding from more than two dozen Earth-based corporations, intended to become a corporate paradise where progress and capitalism could expand without restriction. Over time, however, those companies became the true rulers of the city, turning Greyhawke into a tightly controlled society shaped by surveillance, private security, and corporate power.

Players take on the role of an independent agent who has escaped the life these corporations planned for them. Rather than serving the system, they join a small group taking jobs against the very organizations that dominate the city. Missions range from stealing confidential corporate data to planting false evidence, all while avoiding or overcoming advanced security systems.

The setting gives Borderline a strong cyberpunk-inspired identity. Greyhawke is not merely a backdrop; its towering buildings, restricted zones, corporate facilities, and security infrastructure directly shape how players move, fight, and escape.

Parkour and Movement

The core focus of Borderline is its parkour system. Rather than treating movement as a simple way to travel between objectives, the game makes traversal a central gameplay mechanic. Players must read the environment, maintain momentum, and chain together movements to reach otherwise inaccessible areas.

Each mission includes traversal challenges that require players to climb, leap, vault, and navigate complex terrain. These sections often function like jump puzzles, encouraging players to experiment with different paths and discover the most efficient route through a level. The best route is rarely the most obvious one, and success often depends on recognizing environmental opportunities before guards or security systems can respond.

This emphasis on momentum gives the game a strong sense of flow. A successful run is not only about reaching the objective but about doing so smoothly, quickly, and creatively. Players who master the movement system can turn the city itself into an escape route.

Missions and Objectives

Borderline features multiple infinitely generating missions, giving players a steady stream of objectives across different corporate locations. These jobs may involve infiltrating secure buildings, stealing sensitive information, sabotaging corporate operations, or planting misleading evidence.

Because every mission requires players to find the best escape route, the game encourages replayability and experimentation. A building can be approached in different ways depending on the player’s preferred style: some may favor silent infiltration and careful route planning, while others may choose a more aggressive approach and fight their way out.

The procedural structure also means that players must stay adaptable. Familiar parkour skills remain important, but changing objectives, layouts, and threats prevent missions from feeling repetitive.

Combat and Security

While parkour is the heart of the game, combat plays an important supporting role. Borderline includes first-person combat with both melee weapons and firearms, allowing players to choose how they deal with enemies. This flexibility means players can attempt a non-lethal or stealth-focused approach, or engage directly when a mission goes wrong.

Corporate security is a constant threat throughout Greyhawke. The city’s most powerful companies employ advanced protective measures, including remote security technology developed by QuantumX, a major military-grade drone manufacturer. Players must therefore balance speed and awareness, using movement to avoid detection while remaining prepared for dangerous encounters.

Combat encounters are designed to work alongside traversal rather than replace it. Players may need to fight through a guarded area, then immediately escape across rooftops, through vents, or along narrow structural paths. This blend of action and movement keeps the pace intense and varied.

Corporate Factions

The world of Borderline is shaped by influential corporate factions, each with its own role in Greyhawke’s economy and security. One example is QuantumX, a cutting-edge manufacturer of military-grade drones and a major provider of remote security systems for the Greyhawke State Police.

Another major power is the city’s primary electricity supplier, which holds a near-monopoly over utilities and maintains control through extortion, bribery, and violence. These factions help establish a world where corporate influence extends into nearly every part of daily life, giving players clear targets and a reason to resist the system.

Overall Experience

Borderline is designed for players who enjoy first-person movement games, tactical infiltration, and fast, skill-based action. Its combination of parkour, mission variety, environmental puzzles, and combat creates a gameplay loop centered on freedom of approach.

Whether sneaking through a corporate tower, racing across rooftops, or fighting through security forces, players are constantly making decisions about speed, risk, and route. With its futuristic city setting, corporate conspiracy narrative, and momentum-focused design, Borderline aims to deliver a thrilling parkour adventure where every building is both an obstacle and an opportunity.
