This is my going on research topic which harnesses embedded smart phone sensors to capture the action of leaving home. Hence, I mainly need two primary types of information from you, the sensor data within your phone and the time you are leaving home.

The data collection can be performed as long as you are at home, and have the action of leaving home, which means you can collect many times within a day and each collection is considered as a success trial as long as it was performed in a right manner. However, it is prefer to make the duration of data collection at the range of 8 mins-60 mins.

Android Application Manual Instructions

There are mainly 5 sections or panels in the App, which are Main Panel, Upload Files, Settings, Statement and Account. The Main Panel is the most primary section that will be used to control the collection of your sensor data. As to make it relatively easy for collection, two types of modes are fully designed: one is manual, and the other one is auto. In the manual mode, once you want to collect the data, press the 'Start Sensors' button, and the App will read your sensor data automatically. If you are about to leave home, press the button of 'Record Leaving Times' to record the it. The action of leaving home must be performed in a continuous manner, which means that, after you have pressed the recording button, you should go straightforward towards the door. Any intermediate actions such as going for a toilet, going back to fetch keys etc are considered a failure of collection. However, if you did make such mistake, and still want to keep this collection, please make a clear note about it in the following questionnaire dialog. There may be different statuses of leaving home, such as you are about to leave home, you reach the door area and change shoes, shut the door and lock it, and about to walk away from home. Try your best to record the time of different states by pressing the 'Record Leaving Times' button under the propping dialog. The minimal pressing shall be at least one. After you have press the recording button for the first time, the button of 'Stop Sensors' will be enabled to make you to stop the sensor manually. Please notice that, press this stop button only after you are absolutely out of your home. It is better to stop the sensor when you reach the out range WIFI signal of your home. If you don't want to manually stop sensing, the App will automatically do it for you in 3 mins by default after you first press the 'Record Leaving Times' button. After the sensing stops, you are required to confirm the correctness of data collection, and ask you some other general questions about the collection. The mandatory field is 'Phone Orientation', which must be input in a correct manner. The questionnaire dialog will be presented every time you finish a collection. You can set up default settings for the questions in Settings section if you don't want to input them every time. For the Auto mode, it is exactly the same as Manual. The only difference is that,under Auto, the App will automatically run at the predefined alarm time (can be set at the Settings Panel); while, in Manual Mode, you have to manually press the "Start Sensors" button to start the sensing. It is encouraged to use Manual mode which enables you much control of the app. In Manual Mode, every time roughly 10 mins-60 mins before you leave home, you just manually open the App to start the sensing.

Important to know that, if you do make some mistakes in the collection and can't fix it anyhow, please DO DELETE that data set without hesitation; otherwise, it will potential degrade the algorithm's accuracy.However, if you do made trivial mistakes but still want to keep the collection, you can still confirm with Yes option, but you need to make it clear in the question dialog, and make some notes about what the mistake is and how to fix it in a precise way.
