Everyday English is rich with colorful phrases many of which have nautical origins. Words such as 'at loggerheads', 'the bitter end', and 'leeway' all have a marine origin. A loggerhead may not be used today, but there are a great number of other terms specific to the nautical environment which are and must be learned.
