Chinese classifiers or 量词 (liàng cí) are characters that go between a number (or a demonstrative or interrogative pronoun) and a noun in Chinese. They can vary from dialect to dialect and some nouns may have more than one allowable classifier which may or may not give a subtle difference in meaning. The classifiers shown in the App apply to Mandarin Chinese.

The 'List' section of the App shows an example list of some of the more commonly used classifiers and their general usage, but the list is by no means exhaustive.

The 'Examples' section of the App gives some examples of these classifiers in phrases and sentences.

The 'Quiz' section allows you to test your knowledge regarding the appropriate use of classifiers. You can also share your score using the Share function.
