Beard is a hair that grows on the chin, cheeks, and neck of men. Hair in the area above the lips sometimes also grouped as "beard" although specifically more often called a mustache. The study of beards is called pogonology. Throughout history, bearded men have been associated with various attributes such as wise, masculine, or high status, but sometimes also associated as being neat or eccentric.

In the Islamic Shari'a, Muslims are required to cut off the mustache and keep the beard, if the person is gifted to have a janggu
