Aura! Aura! is a mobile AR art experience by the media art group Jing Yan + Mengyu Chen. By launching the AR camera and scanning your surroundings, you can very soon get a virtual canvas to place dynamic creatures and installations, and draw "Fulu", aka sorcerer's emblem, that spawns creatures of organic patterns into the real-world space. You can also observe, explore, and interact with them in close distance, and take photos to share with your friends.
We built this app in collaboration with visual artist Miao Jing on Project "Zhen Qu Yuan" in 2020. Inheriting the project's theme of “cultivation”, we select the key characters and scenes from the film of the same title and remix them into an imaginary AR space. Spirited wizard, allegorical mural, Dan furnace...we want you to see these illusions in real life and have a closer relationship with them!
Our app is built on top of ARCore and Unity, and runs on most of the common Android phones that supports AR capabilities. Find more details of supported devices at https://developers.google.com/ar/discover/supported-devices.
