Although there are many doctrinal and technical differences between various taekwondo organizations, this art generally emphasizes kicks taken from a moving attitude, using greater reach and leg strength to immobilize opponents from a distance. In a match, spinning kicks, 45 degrees, front, ax and side are the most widely used; kicks taken include jump, spin, skip and drop kicks, often in the form of a combination of several kicks. Taekwondo training also includes a comprehensive system of punches and defenses by hand, but generally does not emphasize grappling.
