Amnesia Gulag in Europe

European project on the history of the Gulag.

Kolyma, Solovki, Vorkuta, Vajgač are still unknown names for who is not a specialist in the field, although millions of lives have been scarred by Gulag. From that archipelago of concentration camps with an ever-changing layout, opened in the early Twenties of the Twentieth century by the Communist regime, memory seems to have diverted its course towards amnesia. AGE moves in the direction of the recovery of a history that has long been relegated to the periphery of ‘what can be said’.

The Polish photographer Tomasz Kizny has documented the history of such violence with a research work that lasted more than seventeen years and was carried out in Poland, the USSR and Russia, drawing from the personal archives of former inmates and officials of the Gulag, as well as Soviet archives and, later, Russian ones.
