Al-Qur'an or Qur'an (Arabic: القرآن, translit. al-Qurʾān), is a major holy book in Islam, which Muslims believe that this book was revealed by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, which was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, PBUH. This book is divided into several surahs (114 surahs) and each surah is divided into several verses.

According to historians, some of the Prophet's companions had the responsibility of rewriting God's revelations based on what other companions had memorized. After the death of the Prophet, the companions immediately compiled and rewritten their revelations by rote. The rearrangement of the Qur'an was initiated by Caliph Abu Bakar Ash-Shiddiq at the suggestion of Umar bin Khattab with the approval of senior friends.

The Qur'an is used together with the hadiths to determine Shari'ah law and Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh). During prayers, the Koran is read only in Arabic.
