BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY

Kiev-Pechersk Lavra - one of the oldest Orthodox monasteries, founded in 1051 during the reign of Yaroslava Mudrogo. The founder of the monastery was a monk Antony, a native of Liubech. Co-founder of the monastery became one of the first disciples of Anthony - Theodosius. Prince Svyatoslav II Yaroslavich gave the monastery a plateau above the caves, where the construction of temples, decorated with paintings. In the XII century the monastery received the status of Lavra - the main big monastery.
