Calvin's Psalm Hymn is a legacy of the Reformed Church, a collection of 150 psalm lyrics and three different songs organized to rhyme. Both lyrics and melodies were written under the supervision of Calvin in Geneva, Switzerland between 1539 and 1562.
Calvin's philosophy for church music was'to be elegant and concise'. Calvin went to Geneva around 1525, when he insisted that the congregational hymn should be ``singing the psalms in their language,'' and he commissioned the bourgeois in Geneva to allow the congregation to sing the psalms. ..
