পৃথিবীজুড়ে যোগাযোগের মাধ্যম হিসেবে সাধারণভাবে কেবল ইংরেজি ভাষাই ব্যবহার হচ্ছে। কেউ মাতৃভাষা রূপে আবার কেউ দ্বিতীয় প্রধান ভাষা হিসেবে ইংরেজি ভাষা ব্যবহার করছে। ইংরেজি ভাষা জানা থাকলে গোটা বিশ্ব ঘুরে আসতে কোনও সমস্যা হয় না। সব দেশের মানুষ কমবেশি ইংরেজি ভাষা জানায় সবার সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ ও সম্পর্ক রক্ষার্থে ইংরেজি ভাষা আজ আমাদের জন্য বড় বেশি প্রয়োজন হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। আমরা মাতৃভাষার পরেই দ্বিতীয় গুরুত্ব দিয়ে ইংরেজি ভাষা শিখছি; কিন্তু বিদেশীদের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ রক্ষায় আমাদের সে শিক্ষা পদ্ধতি কতটুকু সহায়ক হচ্ছে? শিক্ষাজীবনের শুরু থেকে শেষ ক্লাস অবধি আমাদের পাঠ্যক্রমে কমবেশি ইংরেজি ভাষা অন্তর্ভুক্ত রয়েছে, তবে সেটা ভাষার লেখ্য রূপ।

People of all countries are more or less spoken in English language, English language has become a bigger requirement for us today to maintain communication and relationships with everyone. সেদিন খুব বেশি দূরে নয়, যেদিন আন্তর্জাতিক জীবন থেকে পারিবারিক জীবন পর্যন্ত অর্থাৎ জীবনের সর্বত্র ইংরেজি ভাষার ব্যবহার হবে। বর্তমানে তার লক্ষণ স্পষ্ট হতে শুরু করেছে। ছাত্রজীবনে যিনি ইংরেজি ভালো বলতে কিংবা লিখতে পারেন, তিনি ছাত্রজীবন সমাপান্তে ভালো ভালো চাকরিতে সুযোগ পাচ্ছেন। যে ব্যবসায়ী ভালো ইংরেজি জানেন, তিনি ব্যবসায় উন্নতি করছেন। আজ জীবনের কোনও অংশটি ইংরেজি ছাড়া চলে? ন্যায়বিচার পেতে হলেও যেমন ইংরেজি দরকার, তেমনি উচ্চশিক্ষা অর্জন করতে হলেও ইংরেজি প্রয়োজন। ইংরেজিকে এড়িয়ে যাবার কি কোনও উপায় আছে?

দেশের চাকরির বাজার, চাকরি দাতাদের চাহিদা এবং আন্তর্জাতিক বিশ্বের দাবি অনুযায়ী দ্বিতীয় শর্ত অর্থাৎ প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষা, সার্টিফিকেটের সঙ্গে ইংরেজিতে দক্ষ হলে তার চাহিদা সর্বত্র। সার্টিফিকেটকে চাকরি প্রাপ্তির জন্য আবেদন করার স্বীকৃতি বলা যেতে পারে; কিন্তু চাকরির বাজারে প্রবেশের চাবি অবশ্যই ইংরেজিতে সুদক্ষ হওয়া। সিদ্ধান্তে বলা যায়, ভালো চাকরি পাওয়ার জন্য সার্টিফিকেটের প্রয়োজন যতটা তার চেয়ে ইংরেজিতে দক্ষ হওয়ার গুরুত্ব কোনও অংশে কম নয়।
