Kaku (Unreleased)

Learn Japanese Kana and Kanji characters by reading and writing.

Learn Japanese Kana and Kanji characters from one of three lesson sets: Hiragana, Katana, and JLPT N5 Vocabulary (More lesson sets to be added soon).

Kaku helps you learn Japanese characters by practicing handwriting, reading, and pronunciation. Choose from one of three lesson sets and practice drawing the prompted character from that set on the screen. Kaku provides translations, romaji transcriptions, animated brushstrokes, and audio pronunciations to help you learn characters you don't already know.

Kaku also uses the popular spaced-repetition method of learning to determine when you should see a word or character again, depending on how many attempts you took to complete a character. This way, characters or words you know very well will be shown less often, and characters or words you struggle with will be shown more often until you master them.

Keep track of your stats on a per-character level, see when you're supposed to be quized on that character again, and track your progress through each lesson set.

FUTURE FEATURES

- Automatic detection of whether the character you drew is correct or not. (This is actually done, but my OCR server is having some issues at the moment)

- Notification to remind you to study every day (diligent daily studying is important for spaced repetition to work)

- JLPT N4-N1 vocabulary/character sets

- Word reference screen with sample sentences, pronunciation guide, etc

THIS IS AN ALPHA BUILD - As a result, there are many features that may be missing or buggy. Please send me all feedback as to what features you would like to see, but please omit any bugs you find as there are several already known and are being worked on.

KNOWN ISSUES

- The entire settings panel is buggy at the moment. Notifications may work, but may show up at odd times. Setting how many questions you want to see per quiz is also buggy at the moment. Offline mode does nothing at the moment. The entire app is actually offline

- Sometimes, the audio pronunciation will randomly not play for a word, but may play the next time you see that word
