You specify basic inputs such as horsepower, driver speed, desired driven speed and shaft diameters. The application will evaluate thousands of drives, and display a list of the most economical solutions. The list of solutions is initially sorted by cost, but you can reorder the list by other attributes such as actual service factor or actual driven speed.
You can optionally specify advanced inputs to further refine the list of drive solutions. For example, you can limit the list of solutions to sheaves of a certain size, to belts of a certain cross section, to certain types of mounting styles, and several other criteria.
The application allows for designing variable speed drives as well as fixed speed drives. For variable speed drives, the application displays drive information at each possible "turn" of the variable pitch driver sheave.
Power ratings and other formulas used in the software are based on the following sources, which are joint publications of the Mechanical Power Transmission Association (MPTA) and the Association for Rubber Product Manufacturers (ARPM):
