192.168.1.108 — The Factory Address of Dahua Recorders

192.168.1.108 is what Dahua puts on its recorders and cameras before anyone configures them. Unusually for a .1xx number, it really is a factory value.

✦ WHY THIS ADDRESS

Dahua has shipped this number for years and it followed the platform onto OEM recorders sold under other names. Worth stating plainly: this is video hardware, not networking hardware. The brand list built into the app is a router list and does not extend to cameras.

✦ FEATURES

• Read the WiFi key from the router label or its QR code, nothing kept or sent

• Network tools: response time, speed and DNS — these tests query public servers on the Internet

• Security: the factory password is tested; WPA2/WPA3, WPS, guest network and firmware are yours to tick

✦ USE IT TO

• Open the recorder or camera web page

• See whether anything answers on .108 at all

• Read your own address, subnet and gateway

✦ PRACTICAL NOTES

The awkward part is where .108 falls. It sits inside the range most home routers hand out from, so the router can lease it to a laptop while the recorder still claims it. When a page opens once and then refuses, rule that clash out before anything else.

✦ AN HONEST WARNING

No password is broken and nothing is unlocked from a distance. The app loads the local page of your own equipment and lists factory credentials that are published openly.

No connection with the manufacturers named above: their trademarks remain theirs and are quoted for description only.

Free, no account: your router logins are never sent anywhere.
