I dramatically improved the movement system today. Now there is a world-space menu that the player can look at to walk through the world. Instead of binding the player to a navmesh I give them the freedom to explore the entire map. In the future I would like to create a hybrid design where the player can move freely using the menu simply rely on the navmesh system to guide their character (as in Proof Of Concept 1).
