Dramatizing edited text from Georg Simmel's 1903 essay The Metropolis and Mental life, with a sci-fi soundtrack and a chorus of Text-To-Speech 'actors', The Blush Response is a technical facility delivering a personal soundtrack to the urban vista from above – under strict conditions.
Users select a tower or skyscraper from the list of available locations. GPS coordinates must match those of the selected tower. Headphones must be attached to the device. Only one play per location is possible. If these conditions are met by evening Civil Twilight End time, the performance begins, as night falls on the metropolis.
The app is created by artist Jem Noble in partial fulfilment of a practice-based PhD in visual art at Deakin University, Melbourne.
