This app is developed by the library of Singapore University of Technology and Design. The Presentation Wall Canvas provides an interactive/collaborative space for library users to share, discuss and collaborate with content from their personal devices.
How it works
The solution consists of a phone/tablet app, a PC with the PC version of Long Wall software, and a projector.
SUTD library has specially reserved a projection wall for this purpose, which you will see in the Youtube video here (https://youtu.be/J1mNyjJv-p8). The PC acts as the host to provide the ‘canvas’ for users to share and display content. The ‘canvas’ is then projected on the physical long wall at SUTD Library.
A smart phone/tablet user, who comes into the library, can download the Long Wall app, login and join the ‘Long Wall’. They can share photos, videos, powerpoint slides, pdf or word documents directly from their mobile devices, without having to connect to the projector. This facilitates group discussions, encourages sharing, and provides an innovative and convenient method to share contents from anybody’s mobile devices. This mode of interacting is encouraged as our pedagogy emphasizes collaboration amongst students. Multiple users are allowed to project to the long wall at the same time.
The main target users include students, faculty, researchers and staff at Singapore University of Technology and Design. Our FTE equivalent is about 1500 at the moment. As we are a relatively new university, we are still growing and the estimated student population will be around 6000 at steady state, and this number does not include researchers, faculty and staff, which will also grow.
As the library is an open access library, open to the industry and public, and there are frequent visitors from other academic institutions, industry partners and the general public, we will provide temporary accounts to non-SUTD users to allow them try out and make use of the long wall. We also host many events that engage a broad segment of participants and this app will facilitate discussions and sharing.
