Shabad Gurbani is the term used by Sikhs to refer to any compositions of the Sikh Gurus. Gurbani is composed of two words: 'Gur' meaning 'the Sikh Guru's' and 'bani' meaning 'word'. God`s Word mediated through the Gurus or Word on which the Gurus had put their seal.

Nit-Nem "Daily Naam" is a collection of selected Sikh hymns that are designated to be read by the Sikhs every day at pre-fixed times. It normally includes the Gurbani which is read daily by Sikhs in the morning, evening and at night. The Nit-Nem bani's usually include the Panj bania (5 bani's below) which are read daily by baptised Sikhs in the morning between 3:00 am and 6:00 am (this period is considered as Amrit Vela or the Ambrosial Hours) and Rehras Sahib in the evening 6pm and Kirtan Sohila at night 9pm.
