About Roku

The Roku App (Official) is a mobile companion app that controls compatible Roku players and Roku TV from your Android device.

The Roku App (Official) helps when you want to control a Roku TV or streaming player without relying on the physical remote. It connects your phone or tablet with a compatible Roku device on the same WiFi network, so you can manage viewing from one place. The app also supports entertainment discovery and sharing from your device. You can download The Roku App (Official) when you need a phone-based Roku remote for everyday TV use.

Roku features

Use your phone as a Roku remote

The Roku app provides remote controls for moving through Roku menus, choosing channels, and managing playback. You can pause, play, rewind, and adjust other available controls from your phone. This is useful when the physical Roku remote is missing or out of reach.

Search by voice or text

You can look for movies, shows, and other entertainment by typing a search term or using voice search. The mobile keyboard also makes it easier to enter text than using the keyboard shown on the TV screen. Voice search availability can differ by language and country, so it may not work the same way in every region.

Enter passwords and search terms

When Roku asks for a password, email address, or search phrase, you can type it on your phone. The Roku App (Official) sends the text to the connected Roku device. As a result, you can avoid selecting each letter one at a time with the TV remote.

Listen through headphones

You can use Private Listening to send Roku audio to wired or Bluetooth headphones connected to your Android device. This lets you watch while keeping TV sound from playing through the room. Before using this option, connect the headphones to your phone and select the listening control in the app.

Watch and share selected media

The Roku App (Official) includes a The Roku Channel tab for watching free movies, TV shows, and live TV on a mobile device in the United States. You can also cast photos and videos saved on your phone to a connected Roku TV or streaming player. This gives you a way to show personal media on the larger TV screen.

What to know before using The Roku App (Official)

Your Android device and Roku TV or Roku streaming player must use the same WiFi network before the app can find and control the device. If the Roku device does not appear, check that both devices are connected to the same local network and that the Roku device is turned on. This connection is also needed for phone remote controls and personal media casting.

The Roku App (Official) is separate from the Roku Smart Home app. Roku Smart Home is intended for compatible cameras, lights, doorbells, plugs, and other smart home products. Users looking for Roku TV controls, entertainment search, or Private Listening should use The Roku App (Official) instead.

Some functions vary by location and device support. Streaming directly in The Roku Channel tab is available in the United States, while voice search language options depend on the country and supported language. Roku also advises using the official mobile app instead of third party Roku control apps.

How to use The Roku App (Official)

After installing the app, connect it to the Roku device you want to control. The Roku App (Official) APK is intended for Android phones and tablets that can join the same WiFi network as the Roku device. Keep the Roku device powered on while setting up the connection.

  1. Open The app on your Android device and allow it to search for compatible Roku devices nearby on your WiFi network.

  2. Select your Roku TV or Roku streaming player from the device list, then wait for the app to connect.

  3. Open the remote section to move through menus, select channels, and control playback from your phone.

  4. Use the search option when you want to type a title or, where available, speak a request using voice search.

  5. Choose Private Listening for headphone audio, or open the media casting option when you want to send supported photos and videos to the TV.
