This app works offline: you don't need an internet connection and the app is always fast, whatever your connectivity!
This app does *not* use the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). The IPA is great and very precise but it can be confusing and hard to learn. Instead, it uses the system of the Carnegie Mellon University pronunciation dictionary (CMUdict). It was originally designed to be usable by machines but it happens to be great for humans! More about this dictionary over here: http://www.speech.cs.cmu.edu/cgi-bin/cmudict (note that I'm not affiliated with CMU in any ways).
The main features of the Pronunciation Dictionary are:
- More than 130,000 words and their pronunciation.
- A search bar to quickly find the word you want.
- A handy mechanism to get an example of the pronunciation of each syllable (just click the word).
This app has been made with love and for free (and without ads). However, if you want to support the developer, you may purchase the paid version for a few cents!
Note: The internet permission is only used to get handy crash reports if there was an unfortunate bug. Except for these technical data, nothing else will ever be collected.
