Your child brings home a division problem. You can do it… but you cannot explain it. Or you learned it a different way.

▸ THE METHOD YOU WERE TAUGHT

Not everyone learned to subtract and divide the same way. Choose how the working is laid out: the division box or long division, subtraction by carrying or by borrowing. If you learned it differently, or you come from another country, nothing gets lost in translation.

▸ WORD PROBLEMS: THE HARD PART

Reading a problem and working out which operation to use is harder than the arithmetic. MathPad gives the wording and lets the child pick the operation and — in subtraction and division — where each number goes. That is how you know they have really understood it.
