Malappuram Amateur Astronomers Society (MAARS) is a group of enthusiasts interested in Astronomy. It's working as an Astronomy wing of Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) Malappuram. . Motto: Dedicated to Popularise Astronomy. . Activities:- > Astronomy classes for students and public. > Star watching classes for students and public. > Telescope making workshops for teachers and students. > Popularising low cost planetary telescopes. > Workshops for astronomy learning aids. > Developing astronomy presentations for classes etc. > Popularising Astronomy and Space Science via Blog, Facebook & WhatsApp. . The results:- > Conducted about several thousands of astronomy classes and star watching classes among schools & public during these 11 years. > Made and distributed several small and large powered telescopes. > 50 years of Sputnik Astronomy Picture panels - Exhibited in almost all schools in the district. > Published an Astronomy book Manathekkoru Kilivathil and an Astronomy Video CD Bahirakasa Jalakam. This book is widely accepted in Kerala. > Helped SSA Kerala to take up IYA activities 2009 in the state. > 'Galileo Little Scientists' program is an activity during International Astronomy Year (2009). This programme was conducted by SSA & Department of Education in Kerala with full academic support from MAARS. > An astronomy workbook for students from 5-8 classes and a handbook for teachers on this subject is prepared by SSA by the full support of MAARS. > A Quiz Programme 'Galileo Little Scientists - Quiz' was conducted by All India Radio & Doordarshan with support of SSA & MAARS. > Formation of junior astronomy clubs in many schools in Malappuram dist. > Conducting Astronomy Quiz for school students during the Moon Landing Anniversary every year. > Publishing "Chandra Dina Pathippu" every year.
