You may be wondering why is knowing whether an ionic compound is soluble or not important. In the acid, base and salt chapter, you learn that there are three methods of preparing salts. Choosing which method to use depends largely on whether the salt is soluble in water (or not). You also need to know whether a compound is soluble or not when choosing the starting chemical to prepare a salt.

In this application, I have included flashcards for you to memorize whether the ionic compound is soluble or not. Ions included are chlorides, sulfates (or sulphates), nitrates, ammonium, carbonates, oxides, hydroxides and Group I salts.
