About Indian Australian Cultural Association - Illawarra, Inc.
The Association is a voluntary, not for profit organisation. The Association was born in 1972 as a small group of Indian origin families. These families would meet periodically to celebrate Indian festivals and cultural events. Bigger festivals like Diwali would be celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm but with little resources. The Indian origin community has continued to grow over time with newer migrants choosing to call Illawarra home. Today, the Indian origin community comprises of people from all walks of life and continues to be one of the most educated and culturally diverse communities of migrants in Australia.
The Association was incorporated in 2011 and is now a legal body in its own right.
The Association organises a number of events though-out the year. These functions include, Diwali, Holi, 15th August being India's Independence Day, Musical Evenings, Prayers, Spiritual Events, Picnics and Movie Nights. Fortunately, our community has a rich pool of talent which is always willing to support and contribute to our events. These talented people make all our events a great success.
The Association has developed a large email database and strives to keep it updated. Effort is made to contact our community members about all our events and other relevant information. The community members can easily request the Association to include or exclude themselves from the Association's email database by sending an email on the address given below.
The Association relies on the hard work of a number of volunteers. These volunteers not only provide selfless services to the community but also support it financially. No wonder a large number of our regular advertisers are also our regular volunteers. The Association looks forward to support from a larger number of our local community members and businesses in the years to come.
