Heather Kocsis earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with Honours from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada with a specialization in printmaking. Kocsis was Artist-in-Residence at KOR Gallery, Kitchener, Ontario in the late 90s, where she developed her current process of art making. Using various types of wood, Kocsis creates three dimensional assemblages depicting architectural elements. Heather’s work has been aptly described as “possess(ing) the subject matter of photojournalism, the compositions of paintings, and the tactile quality of sculpture.” She calls the pieces: "wood assemblages".
Her residency at KOR yielded a critically acclaimed solo exhibition whereby the collection was purchased in its entirety by one art collector. The collection is currently on display at Kitchener City Hall. Kocsis has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Canada and the United States. This award-winning artist has work in corporate and private collections, including the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts and has appeared on the CBS Early Morning Show to discuss her work. She is based in Cambridge, ON, Canada.
