In the game Space: Frontier Games, the player plays a rocket engineer and pilot who launches, upgrades, and maneuvers rockets through space. Each session focuses on launching rockets as far into space as possible, and the gameplay revolves around timing, accuracy, and progression across planetary systems.

The rocket stands upright on a launchpad at the beginning of each round. The fundamental mechanic is centered on timing: players must tap at the exact moment when each rocket stage is ready to separate. Fuel is wasted or the rocket may lose stability and return to Earth if the tap is placed too soon or too late. Proper timing leads to the best possible stage separation, which saves fuel and raises the rocket's altitude.
