For each audio source (radio station or podcast url) the user chooses a "voice tag" which he or she will speak to begin station streaming or podcast playback. URLs can be entered manually or by selecting from over four hundred pre-defined radio stations and podcasts.
Once an audio source is configured, the user can start it by just tapping anywhere on the screen to start the voice recognizer, then speaking the voice tag. Stopping requires only another tap on the screen. Thus, although sight is required for setup, once it is done, a visually impaired user can just tap and speak to enjoy an unlimited number of stations or podcasts.
Audio source setup includes a training step to match the user's speech utterances to the audio tag. Thus, "clear" speech is not required, just repeatability. So, for instance, the user can use both a "regular" and a "tired" voice during the training. All resulting variants in the interpreted speech will be matched to the audio tag.
The current time can be requested with the reserved "time" audio tag, and the player screen optionally displays the time in large characters.
