Here is your mobile survival kit! Users of the mobile app are encouraged to learn about the literary characters, visit locations via Google Maps, perform tasks and earn 'Bwainz' points. The person with the most points will be invited to appear in the final chapter, drawn by a leading comic artist.
Dawn of the Unread is suitable for a broad audience and is specifically targeted at reluctant readers. The App provides links to free web-comics that are available every month, these are produced by leading writers and comic artists including; Hunt Emerson, Eddie Campbell, Michael Eaton, ’John (Brick) Clark, William Ivory… and many more.
Characters include; D.H. Lawrence (Zombie Hunter), William Booth, Charlie Peace, Alan Sillitoe, Bendigo (with guest appearance from boxing champion Carl Froch) The Duke of Portland, and zombie hybrid Byron Clough (Lord Byron combined with football legend Brian Clough). Bonus content includes essays and YouTube videos in which comic creators, literary and cultural heritage are explored in more detail. - an essential learning tool.
Users also have the ability to upload content to Screens in the Wild - a network of experimental interactive public screens supported by the University of Nottingham and University College London.
Dawn of the Unread is funded by Arts Council England and is the brainchild of literary editor James Walker and creative producer Paul Fillingham (Thinkamigo Digital) whose previous multi-platform collaboration The Sillitoe Trail was showcased by Arts Council England and the BBC on the digital arts platform The Space.
