Origin

FAIL is the end-of-the-century Internet slang that was popularized through image macros and short videos that show situations with unfortunate results. Traditionally, the verb fail has been used to mean the opposite of succeeding, so as not to achieve an objective. Today, the word is also commonly used as an interjection to point out a person's error or deficiency, often regardless of its magnitude.

While the exact origin of FAIL as an interjection is still unknown, the earlier appearance of FAIL in the Urban Dictionary jargon repository dates back to July 22, 2003.

Either an interjection used when one disapproves something, or a verb that means roughly the same as the sucking jargon form.

This powerful autonomous failure probably originated as an abbreviated form of You Fail or, more completely, You fail it the mocking game about the message in the Japanese videogame of Late 90's Blazing Star, notorious for his fractured English.
