Some games use words like “indie” and “retro” as flimsy excuses for low quality graphics and simplistic game mechanics. Armchair Astronaut is definitely one of those games. Nevertheless, this retro-style indie game is a fun 2D shooter that balances fast-paced action-oriented gameplay with exploration-based adventure puzzles. You play as a nameless astronaut who has crashed landed in the middle of an abandoned lunar settlement. Crippled by the crash, your character is restricted to a hoverchair and must desperately search this strange and dangerous colony to find the ten spaceship parts needed to fix your spaceship. Obviously, this game’s story is not at all generic or clichéd.

You have three moves at your disposal throughout this journey: a long-range beam weapon, short-range power shots, and shields that reduce damage, but restrict weapon fire. All three of these moves are upgradeable as you progress along in the game.

The Lite version of this game is completely free and has no restrictions on the core gameplay. There are no advertisements, no in-app purchases, and no limits placed on play time. The Lite version of this game simply does not include audio assets in order to increase download speeds. This also reduces the amount of memory that the game takes up on your device.
