Flawless skin is the beauty Holy Grail, but just how do the celebs achieve it? Is it the expensive primer they use? Is it the use of a personal makeup artist? Or perhaps it's because their makeup has been airbrushed? Well I've tried endless primers and will never, ever get a 'glam squad' a la the Kardashians, so I decided to test the High Definition Home Use Airbrush Makeup System from Airbase in the Cosmo Beauty Lab to see if I too could get a red-carpet ready look.
The airbrushing technique is said to be more hygienic than other makeup application methods given that it doesn't require touch (not to mention the bane of brush cleaning). By spraying the product through an airbrush, it atomises the liquid into tiny particles promising to produce a flawless finish.
The experience The easy set-up kit contains everything you need to build up your coverage. The instructions were simple enough to follow and I was able to mix my colour from the two shades in the kit.
I began with the Airbase Primer which at first felt thick and oily, but after a couple of minutes to my surprise, the mixture sank in leaving my skin feeling silky and ready for makeup.
After a slightly bumpy start (I had to re-insert the needle to get the product flowing), it was fairly easy to get used to the technique. I spent time practicing on a tissue to gage the pressure and distance you need to hold the gun at.
I discovered you need to build your base gradually until you are happy with the coverage, and avoid holding the gun still for too long or you'll notice it get wet on the skin.
Overall I was very happy with the foundation finish and would say the base looked pretty 'perfect'. My uneven skin tone, pesky rosy cheeks and dark circles were softened leaving an impressive finish my normal foundation certainly doesn't achieve. To change from foundation to blusher or bronzer add the thinner and spray through until clean. Targeting the blusher was simple and accurate as you can feel where the air is hitting your face
The verdict I have to say, I can't see myself using this on a daily basis, as the cleaning can be difficult and time consuming, although I would say it's perfect for party makeup especially with the impending Christmas season. The base is gorgeous (Kimmy K eat your heart out), there's no nasty streak marks from foundation brushes, the product is easily blendable and it survived a day in the office and the dreaded tube journey home! Top marks.
