হুমায়ূন আহমেদ (ইংরেজি: Humayun Ahmed, ১৩ নভেম্বর, ১৯৪৮ – ১৯ জুলাই, ২০১২) বিংশ শতাব্দীর বাঙালি জনপ্রিয় কথাসাহিত্যিকদের মধ্যে অন্যতম। তাঁকে বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা পরবর্তী শ্রেষ্ঠ লেখক গণ্য করা হয়। তিনি একাধারে ঔপন্যাসিক, ছোটগল্পকার, নাট্যকার এবং গীতিকার। বলা হয় আধুনিক বাংলা কল্পবিজ্ঞান সাহিত্যের তিনি পথিকৃৎ। নাটক ও চলচ্চিত্র পরিচালক হিসাবেও তিনি সমাদৃত। তাঁর প্রকাশিত গ্রন্থের সংখ্যা তিন শতাধিক।[৩] বাংলা কথাসাহিত্যে তিনি সংলাপপ্রধান নতুন শৈলীর জনক। তাঁর বেশ কিছু গ্রন্থ পৃথিবীর নানা ভাষায় অনূদিত হয়েছে, বেশ কিছু গ্রন্থ স্কুল-কলেজ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পাঠ্যসূচীর অন্তর্ভুক্ত। সত্তর দশকের শেষভাগে থেকে শুরু করে মৃত্যু অবধি তিনি ছিলেন বাংলা গল্প-উপন্যাসের অপ্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী কারিগর। এই কালপর্বে তাঁর গল্প-উপন্যাসের জনপ্রিয়তা ছিল তুলনারহিত। তাঁর সৃষ্ট হিমু এবং মিসির আলি ও শুভ্র চরিত্রগুলি বাংলাদেশের যুবকশ্রেণীকে গভীরভাবে উদ্বেলিত করেছে। বৈজ্ঞানিক কল্পকাহিনীও তাঁর সৃষ্টিকর্মের অন্তর্গত। ধরা হয় বাংলাদেশে বৈজ্ঞানিক কল্পকাহিনীর জনপ্রিয়তা তিনি শুরু করেন। তাঁর রচিত প্রথম সায়েন্স ফিকশন "তোমাদের জন্য ভালোবাসা" তাঁর নির্মিত চলচ্চিত্রসমূহ পেয়েছে অসামান্য দর্শকপ্রিয়তা। তবে তাঁর টেলিভিশন নাটকগুলি ছিল সর্বাধিক জনপ্রিয়। সংখ্যায় বেশী না হলেও তাঁর রচিত গানগুলোও সবিশেষ জনপ্রিয়তা লাভ করে। তাঁর অন্যতম উপন্যাস হলো নন্দিত নরকে, মধ্যাহ্ন, জোছনা ও জননীর গল্প, মাতাল হাওয়া ইত্যাদি। তাঁর নির্মিত কয়েকটি চলচ্চিত্র হলো দুই দুয়ারী, শ্রাবণ মেঘের দিন, ঘেঁটুপুত্র কমলা ইত্যাদি। তিনি ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রসায়ন বিভাগের অধ্যাপক হিসাবে দীর্ঘকাল কর্মরত ছিলেন।[৪] লেখালিখি এবং চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাণের স্বার্থে তিনি অধ্যাপনা ছেড়ে দেন। ১৯৭১ খ্রিস্টাব্দে বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ চলাকালে পাকিস্তানী সেনাবাহিনী তাঁকে আটক করে এবং নির্যাতনের পর হত্যার জন্য গুলি চালায়। তিনি অলৌকিকভাবে বেঁচে যান।

Humayun Ahmed (pronounced: [ɦumae̯un aɦmed̪]; 13 November 1948 – 19 July 2012) was a Bangladeshi writer, dramatist, screenwriter, and filmmaker.[4] His breakthrough was his debut novel Nondito Noroke published in 1972.[5] He wrote over 200 fiction and non-fiction books, all of which were bestsellers in Bangladesh.[6][7] Ahmed's writing style is characterized as magical realism.[8] His books were the top sellers at the Ekushey Book Fair during the 1990s and 2000s.[9] He won the Bangla Academy Award and the Ekushey Padak award for his contribution to Bengali literature.

In the early 1990s, Ahmed emerged as a filmmaker. He went on to make a total of eight films - each based on his own novels. He received six Bangladesh National Film Awards in different categories for the films Daruchini Dwip, Aguner Poroshmoni and Ghetuputra Komola.

Ahmed’s debut novel Nondito Noroke (In Blissful Hell) was published in 1972 while he was still a university student.[18][19][20] From his very first novel, his themes included the aspirations of average middle-class urban families and portrayed quintessential moments of their lives.[19] His second novel was Shonkhonil Karagar.[21]

Ahmed wrote fictional series featuring recurring characters such as Himu (15 novels), Misir Ali (10 novels) and less frequently, Shubhro.[21] He wrote several novels based on the Bangladesh Liberation War – Aguner Poroshmoni, Srabon Megher Din, and Jyotsna O Jononir Golpo.[21] His romantic novels included: Badol Diner Prothom Kodom Phool, Noboni, Aj Dupure Tomar Nimontran, and Tumi Amai Dekechhile Chhutir Nimontrane.[21]
